Robin is a busy and prolific writer, he wanted something that could be set up quickly, suited to his work, and gave him the ability to blog and add new content instantly without programming changes. His logical technology of choice is a content management system (CMS). Robin chose phpWebsite (free Open Source from Appalachian State University) because they had a plug-and-play nautical theme available which suits his current series of books. This enabled him to get up and running in very little time, without any customizations to the theme (or 'skin') of the site. He could have used a content managment system such as Joomla! or Drupal just as easily (it might have taken a bit longer to find a suitable template).
Robin chose a Linux web hosting server but he could have installed his CMS (or another popular CMS called DotNetNuke) on a Windows hosting server as well. He registered the domain name RobinRecluse.com Some recommedations: - Facebook account and fan page
- LinkedIn account with memberships in nautical related groups
